How to Get the Most From Your Online Press Release

By Chris Sturk, Managing Editor, Mequoda

Regardless how large or small your organization is, your actions are now truly public. You can reach new audience members with your highest quality news through multiple channels.

Your PR activities do not have to go through major media corporations anymore; instead, you can bring your content directly to the people that sustain your business and provide growth opportunities.

To get the most from your online press releases, consider distributing them in the following locations:

-Company Blog: Putting your press release on your website helps you build a more robust site while setting a destination for your social media endeavors. Tweets and Facebook posts can link directly to your website so interested parties would ideally go to other pages and learn more about your brand.

-Twitter: Tweeting about your press release can be helpful in generating website traffic, especially if your news is interesting or valuable enough to get shared. When tweeting a press release, make sure you’re honest with your audience. I typically will write “(PR)” after the headline of my release so my followers aren’t misled in any way.

-LinkedIn: Although this suggestion is more for the B2B crowd, it’s important to remind people that LinkedIn is great place to upload your press releases. Not only does it allow other professionals to understand you and your business better, it may provide them with content they can use in their career.

-Partners: If you have partners in your market, or media companies that are familiar with your content, email them your press release or send them a link. Be enticing and portray the value of your content.

Spreading your online press release to as many locations as possible will increase your chances of developing a larger audience. Remember, always incorporate keyword phrases into your online press releases so you have the chance of getting ranks in search engine queries.
