Facebook had a steady growth in the second quarter of 2013. The world’s biggest social network in terms of numbers, recently revealed that it has 699 million daily active users (DAU) and 1.15 billion monthly active users (MAU). On mobile, the network reported that it has 819 million MAUs and 469 million DAUs on an average for June 30, 2013.

Facebook accessed via web has seen a comprehensive growth from 1.11 billion at the end of Q1 Facebook the MAUs have seen a 21% growth to 1.15 billion and from 665 million the DAUs have seen a 27% growth to 669 million.

Facebook had 995 million users in the same period year ago and attributed the strong growth from emerging markets such as India and Brazil. The fact came up while Facebook was recently filing the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The DAU also saw a good growth which has been possible because of the network being accessed by major markets including India and Brazil. Though the firm has yet not revealed the latest numbers for the two big markets after US – Brazil and India.

As of March 31, 2013, Facebook had 73 million MAUs in Brazil, an increase of 62 percent compared to the same period in 2012. The user base in India rose by 50 percent to 78 million as of March 31, 2013 compared to the same period in 2012.

The second quarter was also important for Facebook since it not only saw growth in Mobile numbers but also a spike in revenues from the concerned segment. From 751 million MAUs in Q1 2013, the mobile segment saw a growth of 51% year on year to 819 million.

In revenues mobile represented approximately 41% of advertising revenue for Q2 2013. For the second quarter of 2013 Facebook earned $1.81 billion in total, an increase of 53%, compared with $1.18 billion in the second quarter of 2012. $1.60 billion, representing 88% of total revenue was made from advertising, a 61% increase from the same quarter last year.

Facebook has again attributed the mobile growth to the emerging markets which has been its focus for some time.

“In all regions, an increasing number of our MAUs are accessing Facebook through mobile devices, with users in India, Brazil, and Indonesia representing key sources of mobile growth over the second quarter of 2013 as compared to the first quarter of 2013.”

Mobile has been the focus of Facebook in the mobile first world specially targeting the emerging markets in which India plays a big role along with countries like Brazil and Indonesia. The recent success of Facebook for Every Phone that surpassed 100 million monthly active users in just two years is another example of the social network’s focus.

While the network is seeing a major growth from the Asian continent, its chase in the emerging markets will get more numbers and revenues in the near future. Additionally, it would be great if Facebook reveals numbers about fake and duplicate accounts. Haven’t heard on the same from the network in a while now.
