The Galaxy Note Edge is very similar to Samsung’s Note 4 when it comes to specifications and software. They both have 3GB of memory, 16MP rear camera with OIS, 3.7MP front-facing camera, and a 2.7GHz Snapdragon 805 processor. The major difference that sets Edge apart from the Note 4 is the unique 5.6” QHD+160 display. Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge has the best smartphone display to date.
The curved area doesn’t help the phone run differently. It’s independent from the main screen, displaying unread notifications and commonly-used widgets such as Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter, and the weather. The bent edge can be modified to include camera controls or any other options frequently used.
The curved area is on the right side of the phone, but Samsung has created a flip-screen function for those who are left-handed.
There have been mixed reviews on Samsung’s new design. Some user reviews have claimed that the curved screen is awkward and gets in the palm’s way. A few think the curve gives the Galaxy Note Edge an ugly appearance while others perceive it as innovated and futuristic.
Samsung says that this smartphone is an experiment and will be a limited edition due to the intensive technological resources used in the design.
The phone is being released just in time for the holidays. All major cellular retailers will carry the phone, but AT&T is the only company who has announced their pricing and payment plans. Other retailers will be releasing their pricing options over the next few days.
