Restaurants Top Consumer Mobile Searches

To quote the insightful candy brand Snickers: “You’re not you when you’re hungry.”

Consumers looking for restaurants are often on-the-go, with immediate conversion intentions. They don’t have patience to look through pages of search results or dillydally on a mobile site that isn’t optimized. They want food NOW.

As a marketer, it’s your job to make it easy for them to find your restaurant on a mobile device (and get rid of those hunger pains quickly!).

According to a study from SinglePlatform at Constant Contact Inc. and research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey, restaurants are the most searched for industry on both mobile apps and mobile browsers. In the past six months, 92% of consumers have searched for a restaurant on a mobile web browser. 81% have searched for a restaurant on a mobile app.

Of those consumers searching, 75% say that they typically choose a restaurant based on their search results. EMarketer reports that consumers searching for food on a mobile device are most concerned with these three factors: business location, directions and phone number.

When site influencers and consumer demographics are considered, the millennial generation is most likely to utilize mobile restaurant resources. The chart below demonstrates their adoption of mobile menus, social media and apps – the most important activities after location, of course.

The above information illustrates the importance of having an optimized mobile presence. If a consumer cannot quickly access your site, menu and contact information on their mobile device, you could lose their business.
