Top 20 Apps for Business and Productivity 2015

We will look at the top 20 apps in two categories: we will start with apps for the Apple iPad (in other words, IOS), and will then look at apps for Android (Found on the Google Play store).


Umbrella by Open DNS

Designed for IT admin. Add security policies and initially secure a device on a wireless network; thereafter it is protected as long as it’s connected to the Internet.


Use your finger to write on your tablet. You can share documents, take notes and the app is even designed to protect your wrist.

Dragon Dictation

This app is for accurate voice transcription. Share message via email, Twitter and Facebook. You need to be connected to the Web to use it.

Dropbox for iPad

Sync all your files easily (sync between iPad, iPod and Mac computers). It offers offline access to your files. Unfortunately, you can still not move files between folders.  The beauty about this app, is that it bypasses Apple’s “no transferring files” rule that they have on their mobile devices.


You can send and receive faxes from your tablet. You will need to upgrade your free account in order to send faxes, but the free account is able to receive a few faxes.


This app turns your iPad into a mobile 3D scanner that uses real 3D data. Upload your scans.

Microsoft Excel

This is like the desktop Excel but for tablets. It is a better spreadsheet for tablet than any other available one.

Microsoft Word

This app cannot do everything that the desktop version can, but it allows such actions as simultaneous editing and revision tracking. Personal Finance for iPad

Create your account with Mint and add your other accounts to it. It automatically imports and categorizes your transactions for you so that you can track and manage your finances in one place.

Office Time

Office Time records the hours that you work and creates invoices and reports with this data. It is invaluable for small business owners.

All of these applications can be found (and bought, where necessary) through the the iStore, which you can access via your iMac, Macbook, iPhone, iPod or iPad.  The download is self-contained, and easy to start using.

File Manager

Compress your files, share them, search them, and view them in thumbnails, grid or list view.


This app helps you organize your contacts by storing business cards on your smartphone. Exchange details with others and create your own profile.

TinyScan Pro

Allows you to create high quality scans from your device. You can save your scans as PDFs, and store them in the Cloud.  The beauty of this app, is that it auto-crops and enhances the pictures for you.

Adobe Acrobat DC

Open your PDFs from emails or from the Web, and read and modify them. You can even convert them into Word or Excel format.

Microsoft Remote

This brilliant app lets you manage your home computer, or work desktop computer’s files on your device, when you’re away from it. You can view and even edit documents remotely.

These apps can all be found through the Google Play store, or you can download them externally through any computer and copy them on to your phone or tablet.
