There are a lot of podcasts out there, but how do listeners discover new ones that are right for them? Hear Your @Handle, from Denmark-based Hyvi, now lets users find appealing podcasts based on their twitter profile.

Users enter their twitter handle and can receive 10 podcast recommendations within seconds. Analyzing users’ 50 most recent tweets, Hyvi’s language recognition software matches it with a database of over 20,000 podcasts. Because only the 50 most recent tweets are used, recommendations will change depending on what the user has been tweeting about — users can even enter other people’s twitter handles to see what friends or celebrities might be listening to. The listed podcasts are embedded as audio files on the site, allowing users to listen to their recommendations without having to search through iTunes. Users can ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ podcasts and choose to receive weekly emails with updated recommendations.

Hyvi taps into the dilemma of choosing podcasts — half an hour can easily be wasted if the show isn’t a good fit. Could similar approaches recommend other media, such as books and TV shows?
