From all the buzz and noise about “enterprise” mobility, the expectation would be that all companies have some sort of mobile offering for their workforce.But the ground reality is that the buzz has still not translated into a majority of businesses going mobile in a big way.

- A consolidated mobile roadmap can take months to come up with especially when the strategy has to be defined and standardized across business units
- Business unit and departments still tend to be siloed with different priorities and heterogeneous technology stacks
- By the time everybody agrees on the roadmap, the mobility landscape has changed to make the roadmap out of date.
Given the agile and fast paced nature of all things mobility, it makes sense to approach the mobile app development exercise one step at a time.
Once a good business use case and investment justification is made for developing a mobile app, the best approach is to take steps within that context and develop the app and get it out there to show results. Mobile app development should not be a large production.It needs to be small,targeted and should make an impact.The upfront investment will be lower and the time required to get it out will be shorter.
Data is king and no amount of strategic roadmaps and ROI predictions can beat the impact of a live mobile app that is contributing to the bottom line.A few mobile apps later, the company can then take stock of what they have done right, what can be improved and then build out a more realistic roadmap that will rely on actual data to predict results.
