Why Private Cloud is Fun and Easy

My wife likes to talk about how, when she was a kid and struggling with her math homework, her father, a respected physicist, would sit down and teach her how it wasn’t as complex or hard to do as she thought. And his favorite phrase that he would repeat while helping with her homework was “math is fun and easy.”

In the world of business technology, there are many technologies that can be tough and complex to implement and manage. But private and hybrid cloud isn’t really one of them. Despite what many people in IT think, deploying a private and hybrid cloud can be a simple and straightforward task, maybe even fun and easy.

Part of the perception of private cloud comes from the trouble that many organizations have had with server virtualization. When not done right, virtualization can add to the complexity of IT, bringing its own problems, such as poor server utilization, rampant virtual machine sprawl, and orphaned servers.

But private cloud is designed to ease these problems, not make them more complex. By bringing in the management and provisioning capabilities that rose from the public cloud. Private cloud lets companies bring virtualization under control.

Through improved provisioning, metering, self-service and management capabilities, a properly deployed private cloud can solve virtual machine sprawl, improve server utilization and help end-users deploy only the resources that they need. Just as it’s a simple matter to go to a public cloud provider and utilize a template process to get just the resources you need for an application, so to can a private cloud implementation enable IT to provide capabilities to the company at large while retaining full control and visibility into usage.
