We gt our first look at one of the new dinosaurs in the upcoming Jurassic World thanks to Lego! Rumor also has it that director Colin Trevorrow will have a trailer and our first look on Thanksgiving. You can see the new dinosaur, called the “D-Rex”, and created by the parks geneticists below:
The director has previously described the use of genetically engineered dinosaurs as :
Yes, there will be one new dinosaur created by the park’s geneticists. The gaps in her sequence were filled with DNA from other species, much like the genome in the first film was completed with frog DNA. This creation exists to fulfill a corporate mandate—they want something bigger, louder, with more teeth. And that’s what they get.
I know the idea of a modified dinosaur put a lot of fans on red alert, and I understand it. But we aren’t doing anything here that Crichton didn’t suggest in his novels. This animal is not a mutant freak. It doesn’t have a snake’s head or octopus tentacles. It’s a dinosaur, created in the same way the others were, but now the genetics have gone to the next level. For me, it’s a natural evolution of the technology introduced in the first film. Maybe it sounds crazy, but most of my favorite movies sound crazy when you describe them in a single sentence.
The film has been in development hell since the poorly received Jurassic Park 3 in 2001. The film now has Steven Spielberg, director of the first two films, on as executive producer, hopefully to bring back some of that original Jurassic Park feel. The film is set 22 years after the events of the first film, and island is a fully functional dinosaur theme park, ‘Jurassic World’. Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) plays Owen, a member of the on-site staff, who conducts behavioral research on the Velociraptors. After several years, attendance rates begin to decline, and in an attempt to to spark re-interest, a new attraction is developed, which has disastrous consequences.
The original Jurassic Park, released in 1993, is widely considered one of the greatest films of the 90’s, and drew in over a billion dollars at the box office.
Jurassic World has an expected release date of June 12, 2015.
