DIY culture has taken the Internet by storm for some reason. We never really got it. Why spend your entire afternoon gluing rhinestones to a sock when you have all of Twitter at your disposal?

Still, proponents of do-it-yourselfism are a legion online. You can find them on Etsy, Pinterest, Lifehacker and, most of all, Brit & Co., a haven for millennial Martha Stewarts.

We at Betabeat are fans of hands-on journalism, so we decided this holiday season to purchase a Brit Kit and attempt to, erm, do it ourselves.

We went for the "geometric clay ornament kit," a $25 box of paint and clay that promises to help you create Christmas tree baubles that resemble gilded hemorrhoids.

Obviously, we'd need some lubrication; there was no way we could tolerate an entire afternoon of crafting sober. We went for Prosecco, because we like bubbles, but Champagne is expensive. So how'd we make out? You tell us:
