Creating Awareness And Raising Donations Via Social Media #SistersByHeart

When I first started participating in social media, my goal was to share ideas and network with other individuals.  While that is still one of my primary goals, today I would like to try and do something else that will have a positive impact on the lives of others in need.

About two weeks ago my wife gave birth to our first child, Matthew, who was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS).  This is a rare congenital heart defect that affects the left ventricle of the heart. In layman’s terms, it means that our son only has half a heart.  Today, there is no cure for this disease but over the past 30 years there have been tremendous medical advancements that have helped extend both life expectancy and quality of life for these amazing children.

These care packages are filled with items that you would never even think of but make things much easier.  For example, the care package includes side-snap onesies that make it easier to access your baby’s monitoring wires. Most importantly, Sisters by Heart offers HOPE through the stories of other families dealing with the same situation.  There isn’t a ton of information available on the web about HLHS (at least not current info) and this provides some peace of mind that you aren’t alone and there is hope.

To help get things started, Business 2 Community will donate $1 for every social share of this article up to 1,000 social shares (please include the hashtag #SistersByHeart).  In addition, if you or your organization would like to pledge additional donations to this cause to continue to help increase awareness and financial support, you can email me at and I will be sure to add you to the list below.  Note: donors can be listed as “anonymous”.

Thank you in advance.
