What is Co-Blogging?

What is Co-blogging? I was asked this the other day and after I answered the blogger I began to think about it a little more. I have known about co-blogging for quite some time now, however, most people that I have talked to about it don’t understand the true benefit of it and how it works.

What you need to know about co-blogging is that it is where two or more bloggers come together to create the content for a single site. Now, these bloggers could be writing for multiple topics where they each have their expertise or they could all write on whatever they feel needs to be talked about. It is because of this that I actually like the idea of co-blogging, but only if all bloggers have the same goals in mind.

So, is co-blogging a good idea? In my opinion, “Yes”. Co-blogging can be a great way to increase the content on a site, which will ultimately increase its traffic. Not only will you get more traffic, your blog will have more of an audience that is reached because both bloggers will have different styles of writing. Just know that when looking for a co-blogger you need to make sure that you don’t have all the same expertise and that both of you have your own style or else the posts will all be too similar.

Tips on Finding a Co-Blogger

Find Somebody You Can Stand – Yes, you can easily find a person to co-blog with you but can you stand being around them? Even if you are not always around them, can you stand sending those emails every so many days? It is because of this that I recommend you talk with whoever it is that you plan on co-blogging with and then do a trial run with them. This may take a little bit of time but it is better than being stuck in a working relationship with somebody that you don’t like.

Don’t Just Choose A Friend – One thing that many bloggers do is they just choose a friend to co-blog with. This is a good idea at first; however, the problems come when one party doesn’t hold up their end of the bargain. This could mean that one person is not blogging as much as they are supposed to or it could mean that one person is holding onto more of the blogs income than agreed upon. Just do yourself a favor and don’t just choose a friend because in the end it could backfire on you.

Make Sure It’s All Business – Your blog is a business, so treat it like one. This means that both bloggers need to stick to a set number of posts each week/month. I know that blogging might not seem like a business, but it is.

Hold Each Other Responsible – If there are two people, then both people are responsible for making the blog a success. If there are 8 people, then all 8 people need to be responsible, but only one person is in charge of the entire blog. What you will quickly realize is that the more bloggers that you have working on a single blog will complicate the entire process.

When it comes to finding the best co-blogger you will need to put in some time and effort at first. Where most bloggers fail is they simply look for somebody that agrees to their terms. For example, if a blogger is trying to get another blogger to write for them for 10% of all the blogs profit, then that is probably not enough. What you need to understand is that the more both bloggers get, the better the blogging relationship is going to be.
