Celebrating a Decade of Skype [Infographic]

Over the past decade Skype has connected millions of people together even when they are far apart. It’s incredible that more than 1.4 trillion minutes of voice and video calls have been made using the communication tool. To give you some perspective, that’s the equivalent of more than 2.6 million years of conversation made in only ten years’ time. It’s only fitting that we take a look at some of the people, places and behaviors Skype has influenced over the past 10 years.

Skype has really impacted Ed Gallagher, as it allows this visually impaired artists’ friends guide him through everyday tasks, in addition to biking, hiking and sailing—something he demonstrated to the TODAY Show’s Jenna Wolfe in 2008. Earlier this year, mountain climber Daniel Hughes used Skype to call the BBC News from the top of the world. Many soldiers serving their country have been able to witness the births of their children using Skype. The communication application has brought new educational opportunities to areas in need. Also, whether it’s for a job, film audition or college admission, interviewing via Skype is now a regular occurrence across various industries.
