How You Can Host a Small Business Saturday Etsy Trunk Show

There are still a few days of summer left, but if you’re in retail, chances are you’re already getting ready for the holiday shopping season. To give small businesses an edge, American Express OPEN will once again be promoting Small Business Saturday on November 29—between Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This year, there’s a new way for stores and their customers to celebrate smallness.

American Express OPEN has partnered with Etsy to encourage businesses to discover and showcase local artisans with in-store Trunk Shows on Small Business Saturday. The idea is to provide online Etsy sellers with an opportunity to put their products in front of customers in a traditional retail setting and to give small business owners a chance to increase foot traffic from customers who want to support artisans from their own community. Etsy’s blog shares stories of many boutiques around the country that are already benefiting from that model on a daily basis.

Businesses with a physical storefront who are registered for the Etsy Wholesale program (join here with VIP code: AmexSBS) can apply to host a show and receive a Trunk Show activation kit. Kits include a $25 Etsy giftcard to purchase supplies from Etsy sellers, two $25 American Express Shop Small Reward Cards to assist with the cost of supplies needed to host a successful Trunk Show, bags, a welcome mat, and other promotional material. Participating businesses also get a listing on the dedicated Small Business Saturday Eventbrite Page.

American Express OPEN will award one participating shop a boutique design consultation from Rue Magazine and up to $5,000 to refresh their store for the new year.

Small Business Saturday might be two months away, but don’t delay: Enrollment closes at 11:59 PM ET on October 24.
