The exciting feature is being implemented via Point, and not through a standalone team app. Point is touted as the world’s lightest and fastest visual recognition augmented reality platform that helps brands engage with consumers by creating “real-world” experiences of products. Point had a fair amount of success by working with brands like Nike and Toyota, and is available on all major mobile platforms, as well as for feature phones that have both a camera and GPRS connectivity.

So, if you are a RCB fan then you will have to download the app on your phone and use Point for scanning the team logo. On scanning the logo once, you would not only access highlights and other regular features but a list of really useful features such as:

1. Live traffic updates from areas surrounding M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

2. Parking and a call-a-cab service feature information that would make your travelling easy.

3. And other exciting features like 3D stadium view, team store and video highlights.

With a bunch of exciting features, this could very well be the beginning for IPL teams to engage with fans on smaller screens. The fast growing adoption of Indians for mobile is only going to support this trend. Such augmented reality features are already a growing trend internationally as Mashable reports. Whether it was the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles or the New York Giants, all of them have been using the technology to connect with fans.

The use of augmented reality and creating an amazing experience in a cricket loving country, should be the first of its kind in India. However, TeliBrahma has been tying up with Indian brands in the recent past, to give interactive experiences like it did with print magazine Stardust and Times Of India by offering interactive real estate ads.

Do let us know if you get hold of an augmented reality-enhanced ticket and how was the experience in real time.
