I haven't received all my W2's yet. What should I do?

I think the due date is Wednesday? If I don't receive them by then, what do I do?

Employers have until January 31 to stick them in the mail which means you may not receive them until several days after that. If you haven't received your W2 by Feb 15, call the employer and ask for a replacement. Make sure they have your current mailing address. If they cannot or will not provide you with a W2, contact the IRS to look into the matter. Most big corporations are well aware of these deadlines. However, I used to work for one of the big office supply store and small business owners would run in on April 14 every year trying to purchase W2 and 1099 forms to give to their employees because they thought they had until April 15 to get them out. A friendly phone call to the employer never hurt when you are waiting for tax documents.

    • The "due date" of the 31st is the date that the employer must get them IN THE MAIL. You need to wait at least a week after that before you take any action. The IRS suggests that you wait at least 2 weeks to allow for mail delays as the Postal Service is hammered with all of the W2s hitting the mails pretty much all at once. If you don't receive it by 2/15, you should contact your employer first. If you don't receive it by 2/28, only then should you contact the IRS and report the missing W2.

    • If by Jan 31st you have not received your W2, call the employer and ask them if they have been sent. If by Feb 15th you have not received it, call the Internal Revenue Service and file a W2 complaint. They wil take a report and send you a form that you can use as a subsitute, you will need your last paycheck stub when you call, along with the name, address and phone# of the employer and what dates you worked for them Call 1-800-829-1040

    • The company has to Jan 31 to get them out. If you don't have them by the middle of Feb., call the company. If that doesn't do any good, call the IRS. They will help.

    • By federal law they must be handed to you or mailed out by January 31st. If you are expecting them in-person, wait. If they are being mailed, the end of next week ought to be adequate. If you still do not receive them, call the IRS and report the offending parties.

    • Yes, employers have until the 31st of January to send them all out. Should you not receive it by the first or second, call your employer and they will send you a copy.

    • They are supposed to be mailed by Wednesday. Wait until February 5 to give the post office a few days to deliver them. If you don't receive them by February 5, call your employer and ask for another copy.
