What am I supposed to do?

I need money, right, but I have social anxiety disorder that prevents me from being able to be around people. So a standard job is not an option. No medication has ever helped and I recently got on meds again, new more-modern meds this time, but they didn't do anything for me either. Even the prescription sleeping pills failed to work on me! I ended up taking 6 instead of the 1 they told me to take and I was up all dam night as usual. Since I cannot work I tried online jobs many months ago and I ended up putting up resumes at many free sites but I was never contacted by anyone for any type of job. Now I'm thinking "Well, start a business." But I don't have any money because I cannot work and I only have one pitiful teeny tiny income that I get for being so crippled. So I looked up grants at sba.gov and apparently there ARE no grants to start or expand a business. They only offer loans. But I don't QUALIFY for any loans because I don't have enough money. So what the heck am I supposed to do? I want to support myself financially and live a normal, comfortable life where I can do what I want to do. But I can't think of anything else to try. Regular job, online job, starting own business- nothing is an option for me. So what the heck ELSE can I try?

tell me a bit about your disorder. I bet I can show you how to become either employed or self-employed. I have several handicaps because of aging and my experiences I am sure will help you--- I even did a Master's 40 yrs ago, on entrepreneurship for the mentally handicapped.

    • You could ask your psychiatrist if you qualify for disability. Good luck.

    • What are you supposed to do? You are supposed to figure out a way to cope in the world we live in. I know no job that has 0 interaction. So figure out what you need to do. Is it taking baby steps to start being able to function within the confides of our society? Is it getting over your mind set that nothing works? Is it going through meditation or hypnosis. You don't like the alternative, so you are going to have to figure out how to make your own life work. I know a handful of people who don't have some level of social anxiety. The rest of us learn to adapt.

    • Sorry - but I don't buy into all this social anxiety disorder thing that's being tossed about so freely these days. Every one, growing up - has anxiety in social situations until one grows and learns social skills. I would guess if doctors are diagnosing social anxiety disorder and medicating for it - they should or would also be talking about therapy for it as well. So I think why medication doesn't help so much is because one uses it as an excuse or one gets psychological therapy as well. If you have all these doctor records - then apply for social security disability - if they allow this as a disability. And stop sitting home - on the computer or whatever - and get out there and try to get over any anxieties by learning to live in the real world. As you should have done at 14 years old.
