Question

How to start a couple different businesses under one main name?

I want to start a business under one name for example "tays productions" then under the main name i want to start businesses such as a printing business, a record label, a music management company, a concert promotion company and a recording studio and dj services...Some of the companys would use the "tays productions" names while the recording studio and record label would use a different name but would still be considered apart of "tays productions" does anyone know how i would file this and my different options. I live in NYS so the more detailed that applies to my sate laws the better. I appreciate your time to answer this.

I disagree with my YA peer. They all sound good.
make sure of 3 things--

a; do market research and write a biz plan for each one BEFORE you start it up
b; if A shows a need exists, create a mini [no formal paperwork yet] Research and Development firm
c; as B shows each R and D is growing and has great opportunity, expand it to an actual company and take control of the expenses and net profits
d; till they are each netting 1-5M net per year leave them as divisions--then, set up an LLC for
each

That is a horrible idea for a startup business; you won't be able to get insurance.

What you can do is start different businesses with different names and have all of the stock held by an overarching holding company; then you own the stock of the holding company.

You wouldn't want to do this starting out though, because of the tax implications.

So basically, you want to start up a parent company with subsidiaries; such as a conglomerate company.

In order for you to set up multiple companies under one, you'll want to incorporate your parent company; i.e "Tays Productions". Then you'll want to set up each subsidiary separately; as their own companies. Even though each company may have their own name and industry, the ownership will fall under the parent company. Since the companies are all under "Tays Productions", you should be able to consolidate each companies earnings and pay taxes solely through the parent company; i.e "Tays Productions".
