generally the best way to handle it is detach yourself. it really isn't about you, assuming you are competent worker of course. they aren't talking to you, they are talking to XXXX company.
so make sure you know your stuff, let them vent when needed, be direct when its your turn. don't tell white lies or sugar coat what needs to be said just so they are happy. that just means they are madder the next time.
if they have legitimate beef, fix it and try to figure out how it happen.
