Question about Copyrights, Pertaining to Online Media/Games?
I'm currently in the process of making an online gaming website that will have hundreds of flash and java based games. I was wondering about copyright laws and such, because in the future I hope to make some revenue off of advertisements. For an online flash game would I be ok just to contact the copyright holders/producers of the game via email and get permission to host the SWF's files on my website and use them on my webpages? Would I be good to go in that situation and if not what might be needed?
Thanks in advance for this advise.
I am not as educated on internet laws such as this as i would like to be. But i can Produce Great web developments. I plan to make this a popular and great gaming website and I wish to avoid any possible future conflict that might come such as getting shutdown by my hosting service for any reason.
Like any of these types of sites... if you are only providing an external link... you will not have to worry about copyright law.
You are on the right track though.. the best thing is to try to contact the various venders and try to work with them.. a partnership or something. Try to cover all of the possible bases before you venture into anything.. that way you will not have wasted your time.
As far as hosting this site.. not all web hosts will be willing to host this type of site. I'd stay away from some of the more popular ones.. as they support laws like SOPA.
I know for a fact that SiteServing allows this type of website to be hosted.. so I'd recommend you consider them. They are an awesome host and are really well priced.. so you won't end up spending a lot of money.
Hope this helps and best of luck with your new website!!
