To celebrate the company's 100-year anniversary, the Dodge brand will introduce two limited-edition muscle cars with special commemorative packages. A 100th Anniversary Edition 4-door Charger large car and 2-door Challenger midsize sporty car each will feature a commemorative package, adding $2,200 (Charger) and $2,500 (Challenger) to the price of each car, respectively.
Both packages include a choice of exterior colors, including a new "High Octane" Red Pearl Coat paint; 20-inch polished 5-spoke aluminum wheels; commemorative badging and key fobs; and a limited-edition owner's kit and book on Dodge heritage.
Both models, which will arrive in dealer showrooms during the first quarter of 2014, will be equipped with a standard V-6 engine, estimated to achieve 31 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. A 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine that produces 375 horsepower and 395 lb.-ft. of torque also will be available as an option. Both models' powertrains will be mated with a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission.
The Charger 100th Anniversary Edition package is available for an extra $2,200 (MSRP) more than the Charger SXT Plus or R/T Plus trim levels. A choice of exterior colors in addition to the special "High Octane" red, unique grille treatment, historical "Dodge Est. 1914" front-fender badges, and special logos are featured. Exterior appointments on vehicles powered by the V-8 engine will also include a rear spoiler and red grille badge.
Interior appointments include Molten Red or Foundry Black Nappa leather seats with a custom cloud overprint and center console armrest and door armrests. A special steering wheel with die-cast paddle shifters for added control is a unique touch and all leather-wrapped surfaces are sewn together with brass-colored stitching. Beats by Dr. Dre audio technology that uses 10 speakers and a 12-channel, 552-watt amplifier creates high-definition sound in the 100-year Anniversary Edition Charger.
The 2014 Dodge Challenger 100th Anniversary Edition is based on the Challenger SXT Plus and R/T Plus trim levels. This package also features many of the same elements as the Charger 100th Anniversary Edition package. The MSRP is $2,500 more than the two Challenger trim levels. Also, premium Boston Acoustics audio is offered, as is performance suspension and steering to match the package in the Charger.
Both Charger and Challenger year-to-date sales have increased in double digits from the same period a year ago, according to manufacturer-reported sales data tracked by J.D. Power and strategic partner LMC Automotive.
