Question

Business idea. Looking for some feedback.?

It's a website called completethepicture.com. The homepage is a pretty large square made up little boxes. People can purchase however man boxes they want for $10 each in whatever spot they want. When they buy it, those boxes disappear and shows part of a picture that hidden behind them. Your goal is to correctly guess what the picture is. You need to have bought at least one box to be able to guess. If you get it right, your entered into a raffle where you can win a large some of money that happens when all the boxes are gone. The earlier you guess correctly, the better your chances are. Well, thats my idea. Before I put any more time/money into it I'd like to know what you think. 10 points to whoever gives the most thoughtful answer but a simple "I like it" or "I hate it" is also much appreciated!

That's an interesting idea. It's basically a $10 lottery. The biggest question I ask myself about a business idea is whether I would buy it. Without knowing the odds or the payout, it's a little difficult to decide whether this would be a good gamble. I read about a guy who made a big chunk of money selling ad space by the pixel. I think that if you could generate a good buzz about the web site you could not only sell the boxes but sell ad space as well. With the internet, it's hard to tell what will be big and what's going to fail. It really depends on if you can capture people's attention and generate some excitement about the idea. Some ideas sound goofy at first blush but they are a hit. Some ideas that sound pretty solid actually fail (remember WebVan?). My advice would be to create a business plan with all the questions answered. It will make you think about your marketing plan and your operational issues. That should shed some light on the viability of your business.

In my opinion, if it doesn't guarantee anything I wouldn't lay down money. But that's for me. It would be perfect to those who like to gamble though. I would be curious as to how many boxes exist and what are my chances of winning. I would also like to know if there is a limit of purchase. Is it only possible to get a single box per person? It is an original and good idea. 'I like it'.

My own personal perspective, I wouldn't spend ten dollars on that. But I don't gamble or buy lotto tickets, so I guess it just depends on the person. People also have to be reassured that its not a scam and that others before them have won. With that incentive, I think people would probably play.

It sounds alright, I would make the price of the boxes a little cheaper, that may entice people to buy more squares. I really like the premise though.

I like your idea. But, I very much like games and like to play the Lottery. I'm not too sure that I would pay $10. per square though. Unless of course, the payout was a great amount! Good luck with your new venture.
