Question
Please Help! How do I go about finding a Realtor to help me find an apartment?
I am looking for apartments in a certain price range but am having trouble finding one in the area! Since I am just looking for a rental, I know the realtor dosn't make commission like they normally do from people buying houses, so how would I pay them and what is the average going rate? I live in the Chicago area. Please, anyone providing any info will be very helpful! haha 1st off it is not ghetto prices, and there have been listing for my price range, etc. I need to contact a realtor, thats my deal

If you call a realtor, they are only going to know about "professionally managed" apartments... those managed by a broker. Realtors who manage properties ARE compensated by commission... usually 10% of each month's rent. The landlord pays this fee - not you. This 10% figure exists throughout the US... it's rarely more and it's rarely less, but again, you aren't the one paying it. If your rent is $800, that realtor gets $80.00 per month to collect your rent and forward it to the owner... and if anything breaks you call them, not the owner. I used to live in Chicago... I'm finding it hard to believe you can't find a place on your own. Are you relocating from from far away? Good luck with the move, and don't worry about how the agent is compensated.

Not all realtors work with rentals. The ones that do get paid by the landlord, not the tenant. You just have to look in the yellow pages and find one that does property management.
