Do I need Money to start a Student Discover Credit card?
Hello! I use Bank of America. And in order to start a card with them ( a credit card I mean) you need $300. I'm 19 and don't really know much about these thingies. So I assumed all credit cards need a starter amount, hence the $300 for a BOA Credit Card. But when I looked it up (Google~) it didn't really answer my question: Do I need money to start this discover card, or any other credit card for that matter? I need the card to get credit =] Otherwise, how will I be able to move out of my mom's next year? ^^ I'm not worried about money. Its just, I need to leanr about these things, you know? If I don't now, then what will happen when I'm 30? Thanks for worrying =]

Sounds like BOA might have been trying to get you to open a secured card. With a secured card you need a deposit amount that you use. In a year or so, it turns into a credit card with good usage - paying in full for what you charge. Keep trying to get a credit card. Discover does not charge an annual fee. Pay it in full each month so you get top scores and never pay interest on the card. If you ever pay the minimum, that's what can start destroying your life, your future, and your career, since employers check. Try gas cards, store cards like kohl's, jcpenny, sears.... /

NO what you should have is a bank account in good standing, If BOA says that ....FORGERT THEM & go elsewhere. Hope this helps.

PLEASE DONT GET A CREDIT CARD...PLEASE DO NOT!!!!! just call around and ask for money..hit ur uncles especially. ur a female in college... dont get a card u dont need a start up deposit for every card but if ur worried about the cash before hand,,,wats gonna happen if u over spend> dont do it
