Question

What happens if I lose a credit card fraud dispute?

I filed an unauthorized fraud claim on my cc because some foreign merchant charged it up with phoney charges totaling $3000.00. The chargeback is already being processed, but what happens if for some reason I lose the dispute. Is the amount just put back on my card, are extra fees added beyond the original charges, do the authorities come after me, will the cc company take me to court or anything? I'm a worry wort if you can't tell. I didn't file a false claim. I really have no idea who this merchant is. I am just wondering what happens.

You don't have to prove anything. It gets charged back to the merchant and they have to prove it's legitimate. Stop worrying.

If you file a false claim, the credit card company will re-bill you for the amount that you charged back. They will do an investigation for an amount of $3,000.00. Look at your terms and conditions, false claims may result in legal action against you, they can charge you for the expense the company occurred investigating the false claim, and any other fees they occur.
