Question
Overdraft block - anyone know when legislation will pass to force banks to allow people to block overdrafts?
I'm sick of having to babysit my checking account almost daily. If you use a debit card and there is no cash, it should not go through. Just like the good old days. I want to be first in line to sign up at my bank. Yea the first answer is right. Not sure why someone gave it thumbs down.

Babysitting? It's called being responsible. "Just like the old days. Keep your checkbook balanced and you'll never overdraft your account. That's the problem today. Everyone wants to blame someone else. It used to be that everyone with a checking account had to pay a monthly maintanence fee. Now hugh overdraft fees take the place of that. I like the people that overdraft their account. It keeps mine free.

tie overdraft protection from your savings account - no worries mate - I have it on my account don't think we will ever see it - because - if banks kick it back the vendor who submitted it will stick you for a fee super catch 22 all the best

Some banks are already allowing customers to "opt-out" of overdraft protection. If they are not doing it right now, they may be setting it up to allow that option in the next few months. The best thing to do is go to your bank and ask. However, even if you are able to do this. It will only stop you if you are currently overdrafted. So you are never going to get away from babysitting your account. In fact you should actually be doing it not only daily but everytime you do a transaction.
