Question

End of Tenancy and Remaining Lease?

I'm just wondering if a landlord has given you a notice to end tenancy early and you agree with the notice and vacate the property by the time it states, can they come after you for the remaining months left on the lease? Or is the lease considered 'over' once you agree with the notice to end tenancy early and follow the requirements? In Ontario, if that makes any difference.

No, the landlord cannot go after you for the remaining months on the lease. He was the one who ended the tenancy. His reason must comply with the Ontario Residential Tenancy Act. Familiarize yourself with it. www ... You may also find out that depending on the reason for the termination you can submit your own notice and vacate sooner than the date the landlord has given you to vacate. The lease is not considered over the day you "agree" with the notice to end the tenancy. It is considered over the last day of your tenancy. That will either be the date the landlord has put on the notice OR if you leave earlier [provided you can do so legally].
