management team
Question
How much would an on-site apartment management team get paid?
My wife and I are interviewing to be assistant apartment managers wondering what to expect pay wise. I know they give a free apartment and an hourly wage, and that they don't offer medical benefits. There's work every other weekend and 9-6 Mon-Fri, so I'm wondering if there would be overtime. The complex is 400ish apartments, has a clubhouse, golf course, pool, and so on. Rent is 500-700ish Just wondering if anyone had a guess. Always good to go into an interview prepared! Thanks!

Its not really that they are giving the apartment to you for free, it is part of your payment. There are no benefits in most companies. Just because they say 9-6 Monday-Friday and every other weekend that doesn't mean that is what you will be working. That is just the minimum you must be available. Your not going to be consistatly doing things throughout EVERY day and ALL day so why would you think OT? This job is ALOT of work, be aware that even though your hours during the day, that if it is deemed an emergency you will have to take care of it, even if it is midnight. Be ready for drama and sob stories with tenants, hopefully your not also collecting rent with that many units. Also, when you first start. Be ready to jump on the job as quick as a person calls you about it. Else your boss will be called and they will say your slacking. Make sure they give you an itemized list of what you are responsable for handeling and what your not. The items your not, make sure you have a company name and number that they have used in the past so that your not calling them everyday asking what to do. I would assume for a complex as large as yours with about the same responsabilites as I have to be paid the apt, the utilities, and at LEAST a thousand dollars a month.

I am an apartment manager. For running a complex with 56 units we get paid our apartment, phone bill and $300 per month. We are responsable for lawn care/ snow removal/ general maintainence and showing apts. If we do anything above and beyond (basically what we would call a service technician for) we get paid $10 per hour. We also get paid extra if we paint a unit $200 per unit. and extra if we shampoo rugs $50 per unit. Both required before someone can move in. Sucks when one person moves out and gives keys back at noon and you have till noon the next day to clean/paint/shampoo and repair if need be.

Where I live most of the places pay a monthly salary in addition to free rent and utilities. That being the case there would be no overtime as with salary (im sure you know this) no matter how much you work you get paid the same. Im most cases the wage is not enough to live on even with free rent. You will have to ask in the interview. Also often times the apartment complex will put their managers through the same credit checks as the tenants.
