LANDLORD REFUSES TO REFUND MY MONEY!!!?
I asked the landlord for a phone jack, because there was NONE in the apartment when we moved in. He said no, because it didn't benefit him. And that if he didn't put one for himself, why would he put one for us!? I spent $200 on having AT&T come out here and installing it, because I was looking online, and said he was responsible for AT LEAST one working jack in the apartment. I live in Illinois. Cicero, IL Does anyone have any information or know anywhere online about the Tenant's Rights or Laws of the Landlord?? My husband's benefits for unemployment stopped and we just found out. The landlord says we have 3 days to get out, and that he is not going to refund us the $200 so i told him to let us stay here for ten days at least... (the rent is $600 and each day comes out to $20) PLEASE HELP. HE iS DRIVING ME CRAZY! Rent was due today. We couldn't reach him for 3 days to tell him the benefits stopped. He said if we aren't going to pay, to leave in 3 days. to pack up and leave the apartment. he cant do that can he? He has to refund me, or at least let us stay here 10 days on that $200. no?? im confused & stressed :(

Illinois tenants union www ... Maybe you can find the answer there. If the landlord has told you that you have 3 days to get out, is it the 3 days notice to pay or quit? Why is that: are you behind in your rent? If not, he cannot tell you to get out without cause. If he has started eviction procedures you may be liable for unpaid rent and legal fees and your credit will be adversely affected.

Go to your yellow pages and look for Rental/Housing agencies in your area. Phone lines are required if he were renting to a family with children.

Go to Google and lookup landlord tenant law Cicero IL. If your landlord has given you 3dys to vacate, it sounds as if you owe past due rent. If that is the case, you should have about 3 to 4wks to leave. It takes that long to get a court date. If you do not owe past due rent and you are current, he has to give you 30 days or what ever your state allows.
