health insurance plan
Question
What should I do without health insurance? Should I rollover and die?
I asked my doctor to forward a copy of my medical records to my school and instead got a phone call from a collection agency saying that I owed my doctor money. I can't pay them so now I'm in debt with my doctor. Is it legal practice to deny a patient his medical records if he doesn't pay his bill? I just saw the movie "SICKO" and I'm pissed off! I'm from Spain where we have universal health care and I don't understand why a country would do what the US does to it's own people. Why even be a US citizen? The illegal immigrants have it right. I should probably give up my citizenship so I can be treated with respect if I were to ever get sick. Obama better get this health care plan right, I'm sick of this country.

By the way, how is that Spanish manufacturing industry doing these days? They lead the world in what? Nothing. They have universal healthcare yes, but they have ZERO innoventiinnovationnnot companre a leading world power with a barely industrialized country. Spain has not been relevent in world affairs since the 1700's. What was their last major contribution to the WORLD?? If you are sick of this country LEAVE.....please. Do the rest of us a favor. There is a reason why the US was not a Nazi puppet country.....we had the guts to stand up to them and make our own decisions.

Michael Moore does that. He presents real situations that totally distort the way things are, in the real wold. It is a normal practice, to not do favors for someone who owes you money. Normally doctors can charge for your records, and if you're not paying the bill for the services, it's pretty reasonable that you'll stick them for the bill for copy/mailing the records. Let me put it this way. How many times will you mow my lawn and rake my leaves, if I never pay you? Sure, my mom promised to pay, but she didn't, so now you want ME to pay, or you won't rake my leaves any more? How unfair. Will Spain pay for MY medical care, if I go there? I don't think so. Your Universal health care isn't UNIVERSAL. The government/country isn't doing ANYTHING. That's the whole idea, behind the USA - you can do it for yourself. We, the US Citizens, aren't really a buncha whining babies that need someone else to give us handouts. The vast majority of us fend for ourselves - and like it that way. Only about 7% of our CITIZENS are uninsured, and want insurance but can't get it. Our government ALREADY provides health insurance to 25% of our population. And last time I checked, when the hoity toities in Spain need serious medical care, they come HERE. And, last I checked, the illegals aren't flocking to Spain, they're flocking here, to the USA. In droves. If you want 'em in Spain, feel free to take some back with you. No permita el hit de puerta usted a la salida. . . .

As a general rule a patient can get their own medical records for free. But since you still owe the doctor for services, it is their way to guarantee that you pay your bill if you want your records. Even if this health care plan reform gets passed, we will still have to pay for our doctors and services. Since this will not be universal health care where everyone pays taxes to pay for it. There will still be deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance, but the only difference is making available to all health insurance, especially the ones with pre-existing conditions who at this time cannot find insurance.

You don't state in your question why you don't have health insurance. And, you don't need health insurance to go see a doctor, you just need money to go see a doctor. In America we don't like to have ours hands held and get a little pat on the head from the gov't. We'd prefer the gov't mind their own business. That's why our parents, grandparents and great grandparents left Europe.
