Question
I was charged a late fee for paying my credit card on time! Can capital one do this?
My credit card payment was due on 10/31, I payed on 10/31 and they still charged me a $39 late fee. I payed at about 4 pm so no matter what time zone in the us they are in thats before midnight. How can capital one get away with this?

if they said you owed BY 10/31 that means you should have sent it in 4 days (excluding the weekends or post office holidays) prior to that due date. On the other hand if you paid at their atm or whatever you needed to get some receipt that you paid. Seems to me a bank has a cutoff time and you need to know what that is and if it applies on weekends as well. Seems you missed the cutoff time. I know my bank has a 2:30PM cutoff time. Capitalone does pull some stuff sometimes but I think maybe they were right this time around. Sometimes if you've done it just once they MIGHT remove that charge if you beg and plead and have never done that before, but I suggest you ask them exactly what time you should get it in next time so as to not incur those charges. Call em.

Look in the back of your statement. My credit card wants the payment at 10am on the due date. Also, you are playing with fire by paying on the due date - especially with capital one. /

I have had this issue with capital one myself and called them on it...they reversed the charge.

yeah- usually you have to pay before a certain time, not midnight. you probably paid after that time.

I once talked to a credit repair company who would “save me up to 50% of my debt.” Using a figure of $20,000 debt, the rep told me they could cut that in half to $10,000…and their fee was only $13,000. So to have them help me, I’d pay $23,000 when all was said and done! Something to think about…

You might want to read when it's due. Call up Capital One and explain. Most of the time they will waive it, if you haven't done so before.
