Question
Is it possible to manage a franchise hands-off?
I'd like to buy and open a franchise like a McDonalds but don't want to spend any time there. How do I do this without having to be involved with day to day things like hiring, firing, etc? I just want to sit back and collect the checks. Please advise!

"Sit back and collect the checks?" I'm sure you're not serious. McDonalds requires their franchisees to be "hands-on" owners who agree to be involved in the day-to-day operations. That doesn't necessarily mean that you'll be flipping burgers, but it does mean that you'll agree to be involved in employee hiring and development, payroll, inventory, scheduling, and so forth. On the other hand, there are plenty of other great franchising options that allow for absentee or passive ownership.
