amount of money
Question
How to get rid of a default on credit score?
Over two years ago I had a dispute with Vodafone over the amount of money I owed on a bill. As the disagreement was never resolved, I defaulted on a bill (this was before i was old enough to understand these types of things). They asked for a ridiculous amount, but negotiated it down and sent them a cheque which they cashed, and that was the last I heard, and thought the matter was settled. Over two years have passed and now i am looking to improve my credit, but have found this default still exists against me and is preventing this. Does anyone know of a way to have this taken off my credit score.

There's no harm in you disputing the derog from Vodaphone with whichever credit bureau they're reporting to, Just file an online dispute saying bill was paid as agreed and currently being reported in error, Vodaphone may not bother to acknowledge the inquiry from them and it'll be removed, other than that, Yes your creditors can report defaults for 7years, however, after two-plus years the derog should'nt be counting as much against you and as it ages it'll count less, If you don't have any credit cards or installment accounts, try opening a secured credit card, at least you'll have a positive TL reporting to the CRB's ... Good luck ...

You cannot remove defaults from your report, as long as they are correct. It will naturally fall off in the next 7-10 years...

Well sorry to say but by you paying for the bill you agreed to the default so you will not be able to get it removed. You will however be able to improve your credit score.

The default does stay on your file for 7 years. There's no getting around it. If you're employed at least 2 years, you might be able to get a secured credit card from where you have your checking account. You might ask your parents to co-sign for you and after a year of activity, you'll get plenty of offers in the mail. Just use it for gas and small items and always pay the balance. Everyone is entitles to a second chance .

UK - there is companies that tell you to pay money and they will repair your credit score -Rubbish - legally no one can repair it, it takes 7 years in the UK from the day you settle any defaults or CCJ to be removed from your file, the current credit check looks at every piece of credit you have even there is no arrears and the look at the amount of money you have coming in and then decide if you can afford to get anymore credit. Every time you apply for credit it shows up on your file, if you have a borderline credit rating and apply for a large loan from the bank who says no, it is recorded on your file for 6 months and then you apply for a small amount for credit card the company see the bank has refused you and they also refuse, if you are rejected leave it 6 months before applying elsewhere.
