You already damaged your credit report. now concentrate on getting it off. This should be your most valuable lesson in life. do not worry about credit score no more, because it been damage. if the collection call, telling them send the paper to settle the debt(ON THE PAPER) not on the phone. you should paid it off as soon as you can. The collection settlement will stick on your credit for 7 years, but it is okie. In the future try to paid your bill on time, your score will back up pretty soon. You want to hear my story? In 90s, while I was in school, i accumulated credit card debt about 2700 dollars which is pretty big for a student at that time. My debt going defaulft which the comany sold it to collection firm, they called me all the time to collect. I later be able to settle the debt for 1/2 about 1350.00 . I think you feel how painful to sign a check to paid it off. My negative mark on credit report for 7 seven years. But from that mistake, I never in debt again except my house. Right now 10 years later, I have 100K in my 401k, 21000 in Roth IRA, cool 30000.00 in cash with no debt. I have no more credit card debt. That is the lesson learn. I never been breath easier as of right now even with the recession going. I 've done it. You could too. By the way, my credit is score is 730 as of right now. But you could change only you as I have done it
