Question

Besides cheap labor why are things made in Asian countries, is it access to raw materials also?

I know that a big appeal is cheaper labor cost. But other than that is it also that steel, metal, plastic, etc can't be found in this country. Or is it that the places where products are made are already in place so it's cheaper to use those places. Can't this country just start making things here and work something out to pay workers decent wages. I know it's very different , I'm sure a person building a washer or refrigerator in china is happy with .70 cents an hour while in America that person expects atleast $12.00-$20.00 an hour. I would pay an extra $20-50 if I know it helps the economy.

it's primarily the labor factor - that is the majority of the costs in any manufacturing operation - although the materials in those countries will also be cheaper than here also a washer or dryer is going to cost a lot more than $20 MORE if manufactured here vs Asia.- you make it sound like it only takes an hour of labor to make one

It's because the Asian countries are more technologically advanced than we are, so we're always getting their hand-me-downs. Bo!
