My gf and I apply for an apartment in CA, USA the landlord wants to check both of our credit and charge $35 a piece. I have good earning and good credit score. Is it by law to check both credits instead of 1? do u have the link to that law? thanks

CA does have a law that you can ony be charged the $35. It is standard policy to check the credit of all adults, but it is not legally required. You can rent with no credit check at all if the landlord is willing.

No law. Just the policy of the landlord/management. It's perfectly legal for him to require such.

Anyone adult living in the apartment will have to be on the lease or rental agreement. So all parties need credit checks. The property owner needs to be as sure as possible the rent can be paid in full by the people living there. You have good earnings and a credit score. But what about your gf? What if you move out? Can your gf cover the rent?
