Question

Cable Company Sent an amount to collections that I dispute?

So I had an apartment and got cable/internet through the local cable juggernaut. No contract so I was free to cancel whenever. I called to cancel services as I was leaving for an internship out of state for a few months. They said they were "unable" to make it out to disconnect the cable for two weeks but that I was no longer liable for the charges. I moved out of the apartment and that was that. Awhile later I started getting calls about disconnection for non-payment, and I called them back and stated that I would pay for the time prior to disconnection at which point they told me the cable had never been disconnected! This was a few weeks after I hadn't lived there and I told them that they were supposed to disconnect the cable and that I wasn't responsible for the time after they failed to do their jobs. They also stated that I needed to return the cable boxes and that they'd send someone to get them. I gave them the address of the friend that had them and her phone number and they said they'd pick them up w/no issue. Instead they called me repeatedly and after explaining and providing the address multiple times they still failed to get the boxes. I just returned to the area after my internship and find out that the amount has gone to collections. I'm returning the boxes tomorrow so the collection for the box fee will go away but they're still trying to make me pay for the time I didn't live there after I requested that services be canceled multiple times! Anyone have any suggestions on getting them to eliminate the month that I didn't live there and how to remove the delinquent payment from my credit report? Thanks!!

Well, this isn't the best advice, but just keep calling them, you'll most likely get a delegate that is a sucker who might reverse the charges. Also ask to speak to a managment

there is nothing you can do but beg and plead with them...you have your first lesson in modern american life. the people are completely powerless.

File a lawsuit in small claims court against the Juggernaut. Bring your friend as a witness. Ask for punitive damages. If you're lucky, you'll win $5,000

You should get your phone record showing the call to them for the cancellation along with the other calls you made. Rewrite your explainable above to include dates and times. Get all witnesses that you can. Then take them to small claims court. Make sure you sue them for court costs, etc. After you win, dispute the credit entry and have it removed. The judge will probably order them to remove it anyway. This process may take up to six months but for the credit clean up alone it is worth it.

Only if you called them and gave them a stop date. Otherwise it's out for collection and you must dispute it with them.

Google search the company and find out what state the business is located.Get the principals of the company via a Secretary of State search.Send the cable boxes via certified mail along with your letter stating your dilemma. That should solve the problem. This worked for me when I changed my ISP service.
