Question

Business start up question(s)?

Basically, here is what I want to do. I have a small business providing various services like Mother's Helper, Household Assistant, Personal Assistant, etc. services. I need help BADLY. My questions are: What licenses and permits do I need to become an actual business? I know I need to register my business name and get a business license. Anything else? Would it be better to hire directly or use a staffing service? Does anyone know how much a staffing service costs? If I do hire directly, do i have to provide health insurance? I know I need to speak with an attorney and I will but I thought I'd ask here first just to get a feel for things. Thanks! Any advice is appreciated and links would be great.

One step to take would be to join the Yahoo group: errand_services. Its a group of folks doing the same thing you are. Secondly, you should investigate basic business liability insurance for yourself. IF you hire someone, bring them on as Independent Contractors. You may be hard pressed to find an attorney who is knowledgeable enough of this field to provide you accurate advice. The same goes for insurance, as well. Join the group, pick their brains, and browse the previous posts. Most if not all of your answers could be there.
