Question
What do you business-type people think about this location?
I own a store in a small plaza. Medium-high income area. Highly populated city. The size of the store is about the size of a small liquor store. Next to the store (which is empty now), is a nail/hair salon, a small shoe store, a Japanese food restaraunt, a coffee shop, a bank, and a cell phone store, and also a dermatology business. What would be a profitable business to start at this loaction. Preferably retail of an item that cannot really be purchased online efficiently.

What you have described are fairly basic necessities, versus extravagant items. The bank, the cell phone store, the coffee shop, the salon, all probably do fairly regular business and get a lot of repeat business. So you'll want to have something along those same lines. Dry cleaning, shipping and packaging, quick copy & print, pizza takeout, pharmacy, maybe a used movie/music/game resale or rental, jewelry repair and resale, any other resale shop, eyeglasses store. Stay away from anything that has too high of a price point. People who come to this type of plaza aren't looking to spend a ton of money. The key is to have something that keeps them coming back again and again.

I like the idea of a Hallmark type card store or a Mailbox store - no idea of the costs

hmm.. You see that if its a rushy area then crockery items are always in which people can buy online too.. Second option I would like to give is of juice corner or salad bar which people walking around mostly feel like eating it. regards
