Question

Bank Accounts by Capitalone?

I was charged for overdraft fees twice for a purchace made on the internet. I noticed that the card that was used was not the card info that I gave over the phone. I went to the merchant ccounts page and noticed that the card on file was the card used in which it had a check ark by it stating always use this card for my purchase. I called my bank first to dispute the charge. They told me to call the merchant first to resolve the issue and have them credit my account back and the overdraft charges will be credited back to my account. So the merchant credited my account and I called the bank back. The bank gave me the run around and said for courtesy the will only credit 1 overdraft charge. I never signed any papers for overdraft priviledges. To test this out I went to the banks ATM and tried to get $20.00 just to see what will happen. Guess what. I was declined due to insufficiant funds. So how could the let a merchant get money out of my account but I cant directly?

Simple - they want the overdraft fees. Most banks nowadays will let PURCHASE transactions go through even if there is insufficient funds. However, they DON'T allow atm CASH withdrawals to be completed if your account has insufficient funds. --------------------------- You could try to get that other overdraft charge removed by going into a branch and talking to a manager - but you need to be really polite and calm and explain the situation - if you show ANY hint of anger towards them, they won't remove it.
