Because your 18, you should use either one of these companies: Capital One Classic Aqua card or Vanquis (Google them) They are high on interest at way above 35% minimum APR, but they are good at building your credit score. From personal experience, and I'm 19 now, I'd say please keep away from credit cards, they can literally drive you to a mental institution! But if you really insist, apply for a decision on these websites: www ... www ... > I'd recommend them, they have good customer service! www ... Your most likely to get a credit of £250 initially, then it builds. also , check your credit rating regularly using a credit check website such as: www ... To keep a track of it all. Don't listen to financial advisers from credit card companies and so on, always use a reputable unbiased one they'll just get you into debt because they're the ones that are going to be making the money Also it's worth looking on www.moneysupermarket.com to see your options, Be careful with credit even if you think your sensible enough, I thought that too, and luckily mum paid everything off! but at the same time, Aqua, Vanquis etc really do build your credit score so can be worth it I guess =) All the best

To help build (or rebuild) a good credit history, it can be beneficial to get a secured credit card, the kind where you put up a security deposit and your credit limit is equal to that. Carry a small balance and pay it off over time. You can use this to gradually rebuild a history of on-time payments that will be reported to the credit bureaus. Your best bet is to get one through a credit union, as they have the best deals for secured cards. I advise against getting any of the low limit, unsecured credit cards ($250). Most of these cards have been designed to set you up to fail: i.e. constantly changing due dates, holding payments in the mail-room until after the due date, online payments that never get credited on time, exorbitant annual fees...etc.

As said to achieve a good credit rating you have to get a card and use it. Having said that, I don't mean spend what you can't afford to repay. The best way to use any credit card is to your advantage. Tesco were doing an interest free introduction deal. This is a great way to use a card to defer payments without paying interest charges, all of which are criminally high. Of course you need to save up the balance owed during the interest free period so that you can settle up when it's due, but it can be handy. The main advantage with credit cards is payment protection. Usually covers amounts over £100 where fraud or insolvency occurs in the supplier. I always pay on the net by credit card. I always settle the bill in full each month. Any other way is worse than stupid.

try to get a student credit card if you are in school. Otherwise, get a bank secured credit card

So you are going to use a credit card and not go into debt. How are you going to do this?? As soon as you use your card. You are in debt. Forget to make your payment on time or if they get your payment and don't post it in time. You will have a $40 late fee and interest. You will forget. nobody is perfect. With the new laws taking effect in Feb. Credit cards are starting to charge a annual fee. Why not just be responsible with your money and live on less than you make. Pay as you go and save up an emergency fund. You will have money and not payments. You will not have to worship the great fico. Of course the bankers are gonna tell you to borrow, borrow, borrow because they make lots of money on your debt. Just look around town. THere is a bank on every corner.
