Question
Is Target liable for car damage from a cart?
I saw a cart retriever in the parking lot at Target with a train of carts turning around the corner where a car was parked. He didn't make a wide enough turn so the carts crashed into the bumper of the parked new car. It made a loud crashing noise, but the cart retriever ignored it and kept pushing the carts. I bet there was at least some damage to the bumper, but my dad told me that Target had too many lawyers and it would be a hassle if the car's owner decided to press charges. But how could Target not be liable if you witnessed such a blatant act of negligence?

I would have went into Target and spoken to a Manager.

I don't think they're liable.

Yes. I came out to find a bash in my car that matched the carts at Walmart. I went in and talked to the manager and we filled out a damage form. I received a check shortly afterward.

Well, if the damage was done directly by their employee pushing carts, yes. But your dad is right, how in the WORLD are you going to prove it? If the employee denies it, it's going to be his word against yours.
