Question

The condo I'm renting is being auctioned Nov. 3rd (foreclosure). How do I track the status of the sale?

So the owner of the condo hasn't told me he is being foreclosed on. I found out by going to online. The auction date is Nov 3rd. I don't want to pay this guy for November's rent when he may not be the owner! Question: How will I know if the owner ACTUALLY retained his ownership after Nov. 3rd? He says he is working something out with the bank but I don't believe him. Short of me going to the court yard steps to make sure the property isn't auctioned, is there anyway I can determine his ownership after Nov. 3rd? Thanks! Note: I called the attorney's representing the bank. They will not answer any questions since I'm not the owner. @Ed Trying to avoid going to the court yard steps the day of. Can go after the third and inspect the deed book?

Why not call the auction company and ask them? Or better yet, take some time off and go to the auction yourself. Or even better, borrow some money somewhere so you can bid on it. Even if you lose, it's fun to bid.

The best way is to write a letter to the bank which holds the mortgage. Tell them that you want to leave the house in good condition and to hand them the keys. They will be thrilled that you are being cooperative. Some will even pay you for your help. Go to the foreclosure auction on the courthouse steps. Usually at noon on Nov 3rd. The trustee will speak to you. The lawyers are also learning that they are not breaking any laws by talking to you about the foreclosure. Tenants are finally being treated with respect by many people in the foreclosure process. You are not asking for any private information. And you have a financial stake in the outcome.
