Creating a business plan
I am running an outdoor Advertising business in U.P. Looking for NRI for expansion?
Question
what should I do? quit or stay?
I have been hired as a Business consultant, moreover try to reorganize the business from a A to Z ( sales and marketing, accounting, human resources and more). When I first make an agreement with my boss, president of the company. He promised me to let me full power to control and manage and correct all I need to do. And this is that what He want to do so. I have joined in this almost 4 months, there are not much things been changed by the way I prefer. All of my lay out to him has been ignored, he has so weak personality so he could not make any strong decisions yet. He makes me feel badly and unhappy about the company. I want to create a vision a mission a goal and a bright future that our company already has a base. Yes, it has a lot of messes he has not clean for years by years. He promises me to clean it and now everything seems unmoveable or very slowing. I really dont know what to do? I have talked to him many many times. Even I got paid each month, but I feel worthless. First, I told I want to join his company not because I need money but I want to help him to rebuild and make his company a a very successful one. You know what ..second this is a big test for me, I just graduated from MBA school in finance, therefore I take this as a first experience to exam my education and knowledge. Another way here is a first step to build my strong background for a long future. Should I stay as the way it is or should I quit to find another company? or should I sit down and straight forward to him about plans he need to do? I can create a company vision but i could not change his attitude and personality that affect on company goals. Best Regards, Ken Phan 4089301040 kphan@globallandscape.info

you should sit down and straight forward talk and tell him about plans he need to do then and only then if things don't get better work there until you can find another job don't cook your chickens until you get the eggs

stop just telling him what you want to do, most likely just talking to him by the water dispenser and put it in writing.

Okay, a couple issues... 1) Who really runs the company? Is it the leader? Or is it more like the lower level leaders / managers? 2) If the lower level folks are NOT onboard, nothing the leader do will work. 3) Tell the leader's helper to get you a 2 hour block of time, UNINTERRUPTED, and find out WHY nothing's been done. The leader himself may be unconsciously sabotaging the process due to unvolcaized fear and doubt 4) A possibility is to start from the bottom up. Start with a new company statement, get the lower managers onboard, and the top will follow. 5) he may just be too busy to do what needs to be done. A successful company's leader should be spending most of the time actually DEFINING WORK, making the BIG DECISIONS, and not actually fighting fires left and right. If he's fighting fires left and right, and have NO TIME to change, his system is NOT working as smoothly as it should. 6) Sit the guy down, walk him through a typical day (shadow him if you wish), and see how his work pattern is, and try to teach him time management techniques... Like David Allen's "Getting Things Done" or Stephen Covey's "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" / "First Things First". 7) You, on the other hand, need to read "The Power Principle" by Blaine Lee and/or "The Principle-Based Power" by Stephen Covey. --- Kasey C, PC guru since Apple II days Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.
