Question
Did the media talk us into a recession?
My question may be a bit of a complex one, at the start of the recession there was a British bank known as Northen rock. the BBC reported the fall of the bank from the start of the collapse right up until the very end when the British government steped in and bought it out. The bank collapsed because almost all of there customers pulled there money out of there Northen rock accounts. Why did the BBC broadcast it so much, the must have known that it would have compromised the financial stability of the the bank. In 2008 there was a report leaked on Prince Harry fighting in Iraq, after that it wise widely reported that there was a media blackout. All news agencies were told not to report this topic, why could they have not done that for Northen rock and the other banks not to forget everything else that has gone down the pan. At the very start of the economical downfall it was widely reported that we should all start saving our money and start getting tight with the pennies, the BBC often gave tips on saving money and how to get the best deals, wasn't that the wrong thing to do? If the media did not broadcast this so much would the recession be as deep as it is now? I know there is all sorts of conspiracy's over the men above (Illuminati) i'm not really after anything to do with conspiracy's, just a straight answer really, have the media talked us into a recession, Thanks in advanced, Chris :)

I believe that the economy was over-heated in a lot of different areas. A recession was inevitable and nothing was happening to stop it. Certainly there were things that pushed it faster and deeper than could have been. News media did not help. But we were heading to a huge mortgage crisis and nothing was going to stop that. In the US, we had the same issues only larger. People were getting mortgages even though the bank officers knew that they could not meet the payments.
