Best way to get a company credit check?

My friend owns a small telecoms company and some of his customers pay him on an invoice basis. A while ago a company stopped paying their invoices and after a while went bust leaving him well out of pocket. What I want to know is, is there a way to do like a company credit check for businesses, to find out their credit score before you allow them to pay you by invoice???
