Question
is this retail of Starbucks illegal?
there's a Starbuck store in my country. Many people think it's illegal. It says it's a retail store of Starbuck, however it's WAAAAAY worse than Starbuck in US and other countries. They don't sell Starbuck's coffee beans but they MAKE the Starbuck and sell the product. the owner also combines Starbuck with another ice cream brand, so basically Starbuck and that ice cream brand are WORKING together (sharing cups and stuffs) in my country. My friend says it's a retail not franchise so it's not illegal. However, can they MAKE Starbuck product and sell it? because it tastes like cr*p and A LOT of people in my country says Starbuck tastes like cr*p now because this is the first Starbuck store in my country.

It doesn't sound legal. Buy a coffee there and get the receipt. Send the receipt with a photo to their HQ. You never know, they may be thankful and give you free lattes for life!!

Starbucks does not franchise. You should see the company web site for information about where they legally operate, and how to contact the company with your concerns.

Starbucks actually isn't a "franchise." Their retail stores are company-operated. Starbucks offers a variety of flexible coffee and tea "programs" (or stores) for a variety of different markets, such as colleges & universities, healthcare, hotels & resorts and existing restaurants. They also will consider qualified high volume or high traffic retail locations. You must apply for and be awarded a license for this to happen, though. So, if the product sold at that particular store is less than stellar, you should report that to the company headquarters.
