Question

Car Company Ran My Credit Without Me Ever Giving Permission or Being in the Building, help me?

My question involves a credit report problem in the State of: Long story short: Last year my mother needed a cosigner for her new car, it was either going to be me or my father. My mother did not think my father would cosign for her so I told her that I would. My mother was at the dealership filling out paperwork and I began to get ready so I could go over and cosign for her. As I was getting ready she calls me and tells me never mind because my father decided to cosign for her. I go back to bed and I never spoke to anyone at the dealership nor did I ever sign anything, give anyone my information or step foot in the dealership. This past month I ran my annual credit report and I see that my credit was run from that dealership so I get upset and I ask my mom what happened. My mother says that she did fill out paperwork with my information, my social and so on but she thought they never used it since I never actually made it to the dealership and since my father ended up going down to cosign with her. I never gave anyone permission to run my credit, neither did my mother, not that she should have been allowed to anyway. Is there anything I can do about this?

Not really. However, what you can do is call the credit bureaus and dispute it. If you are concerned because of your credit score, the score will rise like 2 points anyways. So I guess its up to you. An inquiry is only bad when you have like 3 or more. Then again, multiple inquiries of car dealerships are treated as one by Fair Isaac(fico company).

No, your mother gave permission and the Automobile Company has every right to pull a credit report on an "implied contract" and that is what it was as your mother stated in writing that you would co-sign. You do not need to give permission on an implied contract as your mother implied that you would sign and in fact even had the information for the dealership. If you are interested, Google the "Equal Opportunity Credit Act" and read what is allowed .

somebody had to give then your Social Security number or they couldn't have run a credit check on you without it this is something you should ask your Mom about My mom did the same thing to me when writing a Metropolitan life policy she naively thought she was doing the right thing now I have those idiots checking up with me all the time because the have my ss number

Usually they're not suppose to run it unless you signed the agreement but they do it anyway to see how your credit is before you come in to co-sign which you did not do at the end. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If this is the worse thing that ever happened to you consider yourself lucky.
