Question

What is the best way to find an apartment for only a 3 week period?

I have a block class for university that is in a different city from the university (a smaller town where the events are going on), and the class is held at the secondary school and it's not too bad of a drive, only 20 minutes more than it is for me to get to university now (55 minutes instead of 35, counting on good traffic for both), and I was wonder what the best way to go about finding those places (a good, safe one) would be. I know most are leases for atleast the whole summer, and even if theres some just for the festival, i dont know where to check! Thanks in advance. I'd also need a really good deal, and the closest people i know is friends the opposite way an hour from it, or people in my city so an hour the other way :P But I could check if they know anybody out there. it's a rural area, only sizable town around it (all little farming communities for the next hour). And I'll prob end up just commuting, as its just an hour and prob cheaper in the end, but thought it was atleast worth looking into. This is in Canada by the way.

look into an extended stay hotel. Extended stay america, value place etc. Most apartments won't rent for such a short period of time. Most places have a 3 month lease minimum and even that is sometimes hard to come by. Just stay in one of those places for the 3 weeks. They have full kitchens and everything! Hope i helped!!

A motel, if you find a cheap one and also you better not have many valuables, it should only be a place to sleep and take a shower

You can usually find an extended stay hotel/motel. They will be like a reg hotel/mote/ but have a small kitchen and more space. Depends on you budget. The school should have some sort of posting for rooms available.

There's no way you are going to find an apartment for 3 weeks. You have to look for a resort condo, timeshare rental, or hotel with weekly rates like Homestead Suites, Residence by Marriott, etc. These typically run $500 - 800 per week. But they are fully furnished, have a fully outfitted kitchenette, daily maid service, etc, and probably wireless internet and other business-center conveniences. Alternative: a modest motel room and take a travel hot pot so you can fix instant noodles and the like in your room instead of doing restaurant meals. Many modest motels/hotels are glad to give a special discount for someone staying 2 or 3 weeks. Hotel-motel occupancy rates are in the pits these days.

Depending on the area (if it's rural or more urban), you may be able to find a residency hotel that has weekly rates. In that case, you would be week to week and can only stay for three weeks if you want. Or, you can find a regular day-to-day hotel or motel in the area. Although, for an additional 20 minutes each way, why wouldn't you save the money and just do the extra driving? I used to have an hour commute and knew people I worked with who commuted 1-1/2 hours each way every day. It's a pain, but I don't think it would be worth getting a rental close in to avoid an additional 40 minutes of driving each day.
