Call your local welfare, HUD, or section 8 office. You are going to find waiting lists that are years long. In other words you are not going to be moving in to a low income apartment anytime soon.

Call the local housing authority. Understand though, that the wait list can be a few years long.

Try this website to get the phone number of agencies that provide low income housing. www.benefitscheckup.org. Or, call the department of welfare in your area. It won't be ASAP though. The waits are years long, and sometimes so long that they are not taking any new names on the waiting list.
